The Nice and Accurate Thoughts of Ben Eubank (re: comics)

Hello! There were so many big titles this week… as well as a new Morning Glories finally! Let’s see what’s going on!

Morning Glories – A new month and a new issue of the best comic ever! This time, we meet the “truants,” kids infiltrating the Academy from Abraham’s camp. We see Guillaume, Vanessa, Fortunato, Akiko, Ian, and Irina at various times during their journey to the Academy. I cannot wait to find out what’s going to happen in the next issue with this ceremony that has something to do with time… 5/5

Aquaman – Aquaman and Black Manta finally begin to fight face-to-face in this issue! Black Manta recovers the weapon used to sink Atlantis and inadvertently kills one of the Others. Mera and the Others get involved in the fight and show Aquaman that he has friends who want to help him. The art of this issue was very good as usual and the story is nearing its conclusion. I’m excited for issue thirteen! 4/5

Dominique Laveau Voodoo Child – The sixth issue of this series was basic but very good. Two New Orleans youths summon the Death Loa, Samedi, and are told a story. Through them, we learn how Black Benny became tied to the Voodoo Queen. It’s a good story and reaffirms my love of this series. 4/5

FF – The Inhumans and the Kree Supreme Intelligence are at peace! Nothing like this comes for free… but why it’s so personal, I don’t know. I hope this reasoning is explained in the next issue. 3/5

Green Lantern – WHO IS THE FIRST LANTERN? HAVE WE SEEN HIM BEFORE IN THE DC UNIVERSE? These are the questions I have to know the answer to NOW! The Annual that arrived this week was fantastic and sets up the Rise of the Third Army perfectly. It’s incredible how out of touch the Guardians are now. I am so excited to read the issue thirteens of the Green Lantern series! Go get this Annual right now! 5/5

Journey into Mystery – The World Tree is burning! Surtur’s plans are beginning to come out into the open… starting with Vanaheim rising up in rebellion against Asgardia. Loki tells Thor everything he has done recently that has led to what’s happening now and Thor forgives him… as usual. It was neat seeing the dynamic between the two brothers and even the two of them and the rest of Asgardia. I’m really looking forward to where this story will take us. 5/5

Justice League – This month’s issue wraps up David Graves’ attempt at revenge on the Justice League. It was a great story because it shows the Justice League that they make mistakes too and need to think of everything during and after a battle. The art was pretty good the entire way through but I really liked the battle scenes with Graves and the spirits. I’m looking forward to the next issue to see if the split in the team continues. And of course, the big news: Superman and Wonder Woman kissed! …boring… 3/5

Locke & Key: Grindhouse – Finally! More Locke & Key! This one-shot, Grindhouse, was really good. It was less sentimental than Guide to the Known Keys but so good for other reasons. One thing that I learned from this… Never cross the Locke family in their own home… especially when the adults know the power of the keys. 5/5

Star Trek: The Next Generation / Doctor Who: Assimilation2 – The fourth issue of the crossover is here and presents us with a dilemma. There’s a betrayal happening within the Borg/Cyberman alliance and I don’t know whose side to be on! I found the issue to be the most enjoyable so far… mostly because Guinan met the Doctor and I really liked that interaction. You should certainly pick up this issue if you haven’t already! 4/5
