The Nice and Accurate Thoughts of Ben Eubank (re: comics)

Hello! This week had so many great issues! Let’s see what’s good…

Manhattan Projects – The fourth issue of Manhattan Projects was spectacular and fantastic and amazing. There are aliens, virtual-presidents, alternate universes, and psycho-Einsteins! The mystery of the statue Einstein is working on is finally revealed and opens up even more questions. I love how this book keeps up the awesomeness… what will they bring out next month??? 5/5

Aquaman – The battle between Aquaman and Black Manta continues in this month’s issue. We are shown some more back story and we meet another of The Others. During conversation, Manta says something that makes me really excited to see what’s coming next and who else we’ll meet. I really enjoy the art in this issue and can’t wait for next month! 4/5

Before Watchmen: Nite Owl – The first issue of the Nite Owl series has arrived! The issue takes us through Danny meeting the original Nite Owl and himself becoming the new Nite Owl. We also get to see the first meeting of the Crimebusters. I really enjoyed this issue and will continue to read it for sure. 3/5

FF – Issue 19 of FF continues with the Future Foundation in Wakanda. The kids go on safari and encounter a clan of thieves. It was hilarious how quickly and easily the kids dealt with them with the help of their guide, Onome. This is a fun issue… pick it up! 3/5

The Flash – This issue introduces us to the Weather Wizard, Marco Mardon. There is a lot of history brought up about the Mardon family while the Flash tries to find Patty. I’m not quite sure what to make of the Mardon story yet so hopefully it continues next month. 2/5

Green Lantern: New Guardians – The battle for Odym concludes with this issue. The various Lanterns arrive to help Saint Walker but it’s too late to make a big difference. At the end, the Lanterns make a decision as to who is behind the terrible attacks on each of the Lanterns corps and we shall see how that turns out next month. 3/5

Hell Yeah – This month’s issue shows us some of Benoite’s history and continues to show how much the Ben’s are affecting the multiverse. All I want to know is WHAT IS THIS KINGDOMS ACT?? I demand answers! This was definitely a great issue! 4/5

Hit-Girl – The long-awaited first issue of Hit-Girl is here to show us what went on between Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2. We get to see Mindy try to adjust to normal life with her mother and step-father… while also planning to take down a major crime organization. I’m excited to read this series! 4/5

I, Vampire – Issue ten gives us an epic battle between Andrew and Mary… and then the vampires and the Van Helsings! The Professor and Tig try to engage the Van Helsings in dialogue that could help broker a peace but are unable to before the full extent of the Van Helsing’s plans are revealed. The next issue promises to deliver more epic fighting… with zombies! 3/5

Justice League – This week we see Graves directly confront the Justice League. We also are given more back story about Graves although we still don’t know why he’s going after the Justice League. I liked the way this issue brought in some mythology and magic. I hope we get more answers in the next issue… it’s been a slow moving story I feel. 3/5

Justice League Dark – The group travels to the House of Mystery in this issue to decide what to do with the map to the Books of Magic. Constantine tricks them all into becoming bound to the House and him so that when something needs to be done, they all have to come. Pretty tricky, that one. While they are at the House, Steve Trevor tries to deal with Faust but that quickly goes south. The biggest thing to happen in this issue is the vision that Madame Xanadu experiences. She finally sees what she must do… she must find someone who can handle the Books of Magic when they are found… and stop John Constantine from getting them. I’m consistently excited for this book every month and absolutely can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next issue. The only thing I don’t like is how Andrew Bennett is being drawn recently… it kind of bugs me. 4/5

Mind the Gap – The second issue of Mind the Gap kept up the mystery surrounding Ellis’s attack. We see that she is able to enter the body of another comatose person for a short time but she can’t re-enter her own body… and that this is something that the others in the Garden can’t do. Events take place that result in Ellis getting an unexpected visitor. I’m excited to find out what’s going on and if there’s a sinister force at work. 4/5

Star Trek – Issue ten concludes the Archon story. The crew of the Enterprise does what it normally does by rescuing people but that’s not the most intriguing part of the story. I’m more interested to find out what’s going on with Sulu and this secretive part of Starfleet. I’m hoping for more answers next month! 3/5

Star Trek / Doctor Who – The second issue of this crossover event is here! The issue begins with the crew of the Enterprise aiding a team of engineers on a water planet. Later, the issue connects to where the first left off in the Enterprise’s holodeck. It is neat to see the interaction between the Doctor and Captain Picard and I’m looking forward to seeing how this evolves. 4/5

Teen Titans – This issue reveals what the Mystery Island is and gets the Titans back together. I’m interested to see where this goes from here. 3/5
