The Nice and Accurate Thoughts of Ben Eubank (re: comics)

Hello! Last week was a small week for me but we had a bunch of key issues. The first issue of the Silk Spectre Before Watchmen run arrived, along with four other new arcs in other comics. We also finally wrapped up the origin story of the Indigo Tribe.

Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre – This week brought an awesome first issue in the next Before Watchmen series. We see into Laurie’s life growing up with all the heartbreak of her father leaving; the shame of her mother’s lifestyle; and the constant struggle to free herself from her mother’s control. This issue was really good… it had sad moments and it had a lot of really good moments. The art was awesome. There are a few panels at the end of some pages that are hilarious. I am really, really looking forward to seeing issue two of the Silk Spectre run. 5/5

Fantastic Four – Issue 607 begins a new arc taking place with the Fantastic Four in Wakanda with the Black Panther. We get to find out more about Wakanda’s history and why it’s such a thriving place. The history hooked me right away… there’s magic and old gods and there are things older than the universe. It’s a great issue and I can’t wait to see how things go! 5/5

Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. – This was the start of a new arc with Matt Kindt writing. Frankenstein is attacked in a library and then sent to another dimension to track down a suspected traitor. There’s a lot going on in this issue. It is fast-paced and there is a lot of dialogue. There’s some Shakespeare which seems oddly placed so we’ll see how things go next issue. 3/5

Green Lantern – Issue ten wrapped up the origin story of the Indigo Tribe. There was a surprising change from Iroque that I was happy for… and at the end, we find the Black Lanterns are back! I can’t wait to see what happens next! 5/5

Legion: LOST – The Legion is finally on the way home! But as can be expected, things don’t work out quite right for them. They overshoot their landing and end up years ahead of when they wanted to be. What they find isn’t good at all so they decide to find out what happened and try to fix it. They venture backward in time and end up crashing again in the time period that they had just escaped Harvest. I’m interested to see what will happen now that Steve Trevor and the government are pursuing the Legion again. 3/5

Superboy – Picking up right after the Teen Titans and lost Legionnaires escape from Harvest and his Culling, we find Superboy and Wonder Girl lost on a strange island. This issue shows us an interesting dynamic forming between the two… a dynamic that may develop into an odd romantic relationship. It will be interesting to see how they balance this against the dinosaurs and upside down workings of the island they’re stranded on. 3/5
