The Nice and Accurate Thoughts of Ben Eubank (re: comics)

There are a ton of new issues this week! Some major issues to keep an eye on are Dark Matter, issue three of four; the second issues of both Peter Panzerfaust and Thief of Thieves; and most importantly, the first issue of Saga. This is also Locke & Key week… we have a reprinting of issues 1 and 2 of Clockworks as well as the fifth issue of this arc.

Fantastic Four – This week’s issue of Fantastic Four wrapped up the battle with the Mad Celestials and explains why the future versions of Franklin and Valeria arrived last issue. I have to say that I am really happy about everything in this issue. The art was great… especially the panels with Galactus; and the story was told very well. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the next issue brings. 5/5

Dark Matter – The third issue of Dark Matter splits the crew of the Raza–some go to the planet and some stay on the ship. We get to see some interaction with the company that hired the Raza’s crew to handle things on the planet. I’m looking forward to seeing how things are wrapped up in the next and final issue. 2/5

Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. – The seventh issue continues with the Humanid threat and leads right into the next arc very well. I liked how the ending made Father Time appear more emotional than usual. I also really enjoyed the cover of this issue and how it parallels the Humanid Revolution. 4/5

Green Lantern – This issue was pretty great. Right away, it has an awesome cover featuring the Indigo Tribe. Sinestro returns to Earth to recruit Hal to confront the Guardians but is instead captured by the Indigo Tribe. Carol makes a decision to help Hal that should prove to be interesting in the coming issues. 3/5

Journey into Mystery – Part three of the Terrorism Myth arc sees Daimon, Loki and Leah traveling to various dreams trying to wake people up so they can’t be killed for Nightmare’s plan. This culminates in Loki doing something that does not really make any sense; but, being a plan from the god of mischief, there have to be other things going on. We’ll see how this works out next issue! 3/5

Legion: LOST – The lost Legionnaires have arrived in New York City. They try to help someone; and we learn that Tellus is concealing something. This was a slow issue and I’m not sure where it’s heading. 2/5

Locke & Key – Oh, Locke & Key, all I want to do is yell at you. Well… at Rendell Locke at least. Issue 5 of the Clockworks arc continues showing what happened to make Lucas Caravaggio how we know him from the previous volumes. I can’t wait for the next issue and then there are only seven more issues of the series after that! 5/5

Peter Panzerfaust – The second issue of this series arrived this week and did not disappoint. The action and good story keep up and the art is still awesome. It looks like next issue will pick up some more with the central story so I’m excited about that. 4/5

Resurrection Man – In the seventh issue, Mitch Shelley is in Metropolis with the ability to control flames. He encounters someone called Mr. Untouchable and dies… again. But comes back and it’s pretty awesome. The art is fun in this issue because of the coloring. I hope we start piecing his past together soon. 3/5

Saga – The first issue of Saga from Brian K. Vaughan was epic. The basic story is that two people from opposite sides of a war have a child and are in love. The issue was so full of awesomeness… you need to go read this now… if you an get your hands on it! 5/5

Superboy – This issue is Superboy versus Rose Wilson, aka the Ravager. Superboy ends up on the wrong side of a sword and it’ll be interesting to see what develops in the coming issues. At the end, we see a special character appear and it’s pretty cool to see all the crossovers happening in the DC universe. 2/5

Thief of Thieves – This issue continues the character development of Redmond. We see him “retire” from thievery; we meet his ex-wife; and we find out he has a son. The art is great and I have absolutely no complaints about this book. 3/5
