The fades are coming. The Fades is a BBC Three show coming to BBC America’s “Supernatural Saturday” on 14 January 2012. It is a six episode series starring Iain De Caestecker (Coronation Street), Daniel Kaluuya (Skins), Lily Loveless (Skins), Natalie Dormer (The Tudors, Captain America: The First Avenger), Joe Dempsie (Game of Thrones, Skins), Tom Ellis (Merlin), Sophie Wu (Kick-Ass), and Johnny Harris (Spartacus). If you like ghosts, zombies, religious tones, teen drama, or darkness, you may turn into a fan of this show. It’s not a show for kids under 13 at least.
The story is that ghosts, or “fades,” are sometimes having trouble “ascending,” thus being stuck on earth not able to be seen or heard. One of the fades figures out that there is a way to be “reborn.” Because there’s balance in the universe, there are people keeping the fades in check called the “angelics.” The angelics have powers like being able to see the fades, being able to heal injuries, or being able to see bits of the future. The main character Paul, played by Iain De Caestecker, gets pulled into the oncoming storm unwillingly and quickly attracts even more unwanted attention. Paul is 17 and so there is a ton of teenage drama going on at the same time that he tries to balance with the mess of the fades.
Overall it’s a fantastic series and I’m hoping that the BBC gives it a second season. Hopefully American viewership will help and guarantee a second season. Help spread the word about The Fades and watch it Saturday, 14 January 2012 at 9PM on BBC America!
